Introduced Grows on moist, fertile soils beside roads and tracks, on wasteground and at the edges of woodland and as a garden discard or relic of cultivation Bell-shaped flowers, usually pink at first then purplish-violet and upper stem-leaves only narrowly winged below leaves. Rough, bristly-hairy stems, wings extending less than halfway to next axil. Similar: Common Comfrey, S. officinale has deeply winged stems |
