Grown for fibre and linseed oil, also included in bird-seed mixes and can occur as a casual on roadsides, arable margins and on waste ground.

The flowers are pale blue with pointed sepals that are +/- as long as the seed capsules and the linear-lanceolate leaves are three-veined
