Armeria maritima * Thrift Flowering time: May - September. Perennial Habitat: Usually coastal on rocks, cliffs, salt marshes, coastal road banks and walls. Also found inland in mountainous areas of NW Scotland. Evergreen cushions of dark green, linear leaves with round heads of fragrant pink flowers on unbranched stems. The calyx is papery and finely toothed. Flower stalks to 20cm tall. The larvae of the micro moth Aristotelia brizella feed in the seedheads on the S and SE coasts |
