Galium album (previously G. mollogo)     *     Hedge Bedstraw

Flowering time: June-September. Perennial.

Habitat: Common throughout England and Wales on base-rich soil in open woodland and hedges, less frequent in Scotland and Ireland.

A hairless or slightly downy scrambling plant with 4-angled smooth stems and terminal clusters of small white 4-petalled flowers followed by smooth black fruit. The narrow, single-veined leaves have forward pointing prickles on the leaf edges and are in whorls of 6-8. Height 30-100cm
