Dasineura trifolii Diptera: Cecidomyiidae - gall midge
Dasineura trifolii

Photographs on Trifolium repens, White Clover
Hosts:
Trifolium fragiferum, pratense(?), repens

Whole leaflets fold upwards along the main vein with small swellings, each with one or two larvae. Several generations, larvae whitish becoming pale orange. Summer generations pupate in white cocoons in gall, autumn generation in the soil. Predated by Lestodiplosis trifolii.

Tricholaba trifolii is usually an iniquiline but sometimes forms its own galls on Trifolium medium, pratense, repens. Weakly galls only the central part of leaflet, galls contain 1-2 yellow to pale-orange jumping larvae.
