Photographs on Rosa spp., Rose
Hosts:
Rosa canina, ferruginea, micrantha, rubiginosa, spinosissima

Conspicuous gall covered in long, branched, wiry hairs, green becoming red when mature. Old galls are brown and woody. Each gall contains many chambers, each with a single larva that emerges as an adult in spring.

Galls host a number of iniquilines including Periclistus brandtii (smaller, thicker-walled chambers). Mice and birds predate over-wintering galls

Similar: Diplolepis mayri has shorter un-branched spines
