Unguiculariopsis lettaui Cordieritidaceae
Unguiculariopsis lettaui #

Lichenicolous fungus. Photographs on Evernia prunastri

Infrequently recorded on the thallus of Evernia prunastri

Initially reddish-brown and appearing gall-like but then developing into black or blackish-brown, more or less sessile, cup-shaped apothecia. Discs appear grey-pruinose because of hyaline, refractive hairs with recurved ends on swollen, incurved rims. Asci 8-spored, spores hyaline, simple, 6-7 x 3-4 µm, ovoid to oblong and often with several guttules.

Unguiculariopsis thallophila is parasitic on Lecanora chlarotera
