Can be widespread in ancient woodland on the trunks of Oak and Beech.

Greyish or brownish-grey thallus (scratching orange). Scattered, punctiform soralia, initially pinkish-grey, fading white. Pycnidia and apothecia unknown.
Sometimes host to the lichenicolous Arthonia invadens

Often associated with Thelotrema lepadinum and Loxospora elatina
