Lecanora helicopis Growth type crustose Chemical results negative A common coastal species on sheltered siliceous rocks in the mesic-supralittoral zone, often found with L. actophila. Grey to dark grey, rimose thallus with +/- conspicuous prothallus and small apothecia with blackish discs. Pycnidia often numerous. Spores simple but often guttulate, appearing 1-septate. Similar: Could be confused with Halecania ralfsii (rare, with oily, bluish-grey thallus, medulla P+ red, 1-septate spores) and Lecania species |
