Prefers acidic ground and is widespread and locally frequent in damp meadows, marshes and on wet roadsides

An erect, sprawling and usually hairy plant with hollow stems. The flowers are yellow with 5-12 in each head and the buds are sometimes streaked red. The 2 upper calyx-teeth have an acute angle between them.
