Family: Lamiaceae Common Calamint Clinopodium ascendens Flowering time: July-September. Perennial. Native Found on dry, calcareous soils on roadsides, rocky ground and among rough grassland. Most frequent in southern areas of England and Ireland. An erect, hairy, aromatic plant, the tall flowering spikes having whorls of pinkish-white flowers with darker spots on the lower lip. The stalked leaves are shallow-toothed or untoothed with adpressed hairs. Height 30-60cm Similar: Wild Basil, C. vulgare has whorls of darker purplish-pink flowers
