Poterium sanguisorba subsp. sanguisorba

Flowering time: May-September. Perennial. Native

Can be locally abundant on dry, infertile calcareous grasslands

Globular flowerheads of very small greenish flowers with reddish styles or yellow anthers. The basal leaves are pinnate with 3-12 pairs of grey-green leaflets. The plant smells slightly of cucumber and can be used in salads.

Similar: Fodder Burnet, Poterium sanguisorba subsp. balearicum is a larger introduced plant often included in wildflower mixtures
