Diplolepis spinosissima

Photographs on Rosa rubiginosa, Sweet-briar

Hosts:
Most frequent on Rosa spinosissima, also on R. caesia, canina, rubiginosa

Smooth reddish-green, ovoid gall on petiole or protruding from both sides of a leaf. Single white larva in each cell but galls coalescence and can appear multilocular. Single generation, larva hibernating and pupating in gall.

Periclistus caninae is an inquiline of Diplolepis eglanteriae, nervosa and spinosissimae. Affected galls are slightly larger and irregular in shape due to iniquiline larvae living in wall of gall
