Chemistry: Medulla: K-, C+/- pink-red, KC+/- pink, UV+ white

Coastal and inland distribution on well-lit, siliceous rocks and horizontal surfaces.

Dull brown to dark blackish-brown lobes with coarse, clumped isidia that can form large, +/- contiguous patches. Underside of lobes black with simple rhizines. Apothecia with isidiate margins.

Similar: Xanthoparmelia delisei and Xanthoparmelia loxodes.
Melanelixia fuliginosa. Shiny lobes, thinner isidia and different chemistry
