Toniniopsis aromatica (Toninia aromatica)

Growth type squamulose
Chemical results: Thallus negative. Epithecium green, K-

Common on soft calcareous rocks and lime mortar in walls, usually on or closely associated with cyanolichens.

Variable. Greyish thallus often tinged brown or green, the rounded squamules with pale spots or ridges. Black compressed apothecia, +/- faintly pruinose. Spores 3-septate, 12-23 x 3-6 µm. Paraphyses with swollen, pigmented apical cells. Microscope photograph below.

Similar: Toninia sedifolia. Epithecium greyish. Spores 1-septate
