Growth type crustose
Chemical reactions negative

Occurs on soft, damp calcareous rocks and walls with old mortar.

Smooth or granular, thin, immersed, whitish to pale brown-grey thallus. Large, +/- flat-topped apothecia with thick involucrellum, one quarter to half immersed. The spores are 1-septate, 20-35 x 10-15 µm. Microscope photographs below.

Similar: A. conoidea. Pinkish thallus, smaller spores. On hard limestone
