Intralichen lichenicola (Intralichen christiansenii) # Lichenicolous fungus. Photographs on Candelariella vitellina Forms in the apothecia of Candelariella species, discolouring and eventually destroying them. Conidiophores usually in hymenium of host lichen. Conidia in chains, 0-1 septate when mature, pale brown, smooth-walled, 5-8(-9) x 4-6(-7) µm. Microscope photograph below. Similar: Intralichen lichenum has smaller conidia. Intralichen christiansenii was previously thought to occur on Caloplaca, Lecanora and Micarea species, but owing to the broad host range it is probable a number of similar but so far undescribed species are involved |
