Cladonia gracilis

Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose.
Chemical results: K-, P+ rust-red

Found on thin, +/- shaded acidic soils of woodlands, uplands and the edges of bogs and wet heathland

Non-persistent basal squamules followed by smooth, slender greenish-brown podetia, the tips finely pointed or ending in narrow cups with brown pycnidia or small digitate projections on the rims. Axils are not perforate.

Similar: C. furcata. Scyphi absent, axils open.
