Verrucaria romeana (Verrucaria squamulosa) Growth type crustose Chemical results negative Usually in damp sheltered situations on stone, brick, tiles, concrete etc. Greenish to pale brown thallus of +/- overlapping, incised sub-squamulose areoles on a thick, black, well-developed involucrellum. The perithecia are mostly half-immersed and half to completely covered by the areoles, spores (23-)24-27(-28) x (8-)9-13(-15) µm. Micrographs below. Prior to 2013 was regarded as a form of Verrucaria viridula. Could be confused with wet Verrucaria macrostoma |
