Lichenicolus fungus. Photographs on Zyzygomyces physciacearum (Syzygospora physciacearum)

Parasitic on Parmeliaceae, including Evernia, Flavoparmelia, Hypogymnia, Hypotrachyna and Parmotrema. Also recorded on lichen thalli damaged or killed by another lichenicolous fungus and then invaded by L. erodens.

Minute black pycnidia (20-)30-50(-60) µm diameter are immersed or +/- superficial on the host and open by an irregular pore. Conidia are brown or dark brown, 2-3.5(-4) µm, subglobose, and not markedly truncated at base. Micrographs of conidia below.

Similar: L. usneae has larger pycnidia and occurs on different hosts
