Myriolecis sambuci (Lecanora sambuci)

Growth type crustose. Chemical results negative

Local distribution on nutrient-enriched bark, often in twig axils of Fraxinus, Populus tremula and Sambucus

White or grey-white, minutely granular or continuous thallus without obvious prothallus. Small clustered or dispersed, grey-brown to pink-brown apothecia. Entire or slightly crenulate margins become +/- excluded. Asci are (8-)16-32 spored, spores simple, (6-)8-12 x 4-6(-7) µm and pycnidia frequent. Margins with small crystals in the upper, outer edges (visible under polarised light) and the epithecium occasionally has a few superficial granules. Micrographs below.

Similar: Lecanora hagenii and Lecanora persimilis have 8-spored asci
