Nectriaceae Xenonectriella physciacearum (teleomorph) Growth type lichenicolous. Identified by Wolfgang von Brackel Photographs on Phaeophyscia orbicularis. Occurs on the already bleached or weakened thallus of members of the Physciaceae, including Phaeophyscia orbicularis, Physcia adscendens, P. aipolia, P. leptalea, P. stellaris, P. tenella and Physconia distorta Solitary or loosely grouped perithecia are +/- immersed in the host thallus, usually with only the reddish to brown conical papilla visible. Asci 8-spored, the spores 1-septate, (10-)11-13(-15) × (6-)7.5-9(-10) µm, ends rounded. Micrographs below.
