Lecanora argentata Growth type crustose Chemical results: K+ yellow, C-, Pd+ weak yellow, UV- Occurs on twigs, branches and trunks of mature deciduous trees Discs are red-brown, darker brown or sometimes piedbald with crystals in the margins but no granules in the epithecium (POL). The thallus is whitish, uneven or +/- warted and smooth at margins, usually with black prothallus visible. Micrographs under POL below. Similar: Lecanora chlarotera s.str. has large crystals in the margins and granules in the epithecium. Lecanora campestris and L. horiza only have small crystals in the margins. Lecanora intumescens has small crystals in the margins and granules in the epithecium |
