Lecidella elaeochroma f. elaeochroma

Growth type crustose.
Chemical results: K+ yellow, C+ orange (usually), KC+ yellow, P-, UV+ orange but reactions can be very faint.

Very common pioneer species on smooth-barked trees and fences, often forming large mosaics among other lichens. L. elaeochroma f. soralifera has greenish-yellow soralia and both forms can occur together.

Very variable smooth or slightly granular, light-grey to greenish-grey thallus with a black prothallus. Apothecia usually with black or greyish-black discs but discs can also be dark brown, pale brown or piedbald, the margins excluded with age. Asci are 8-spored, the spores simple, 10-17 x 6-9 µm with thick walls. Microscope photograph below.
