Local distribution on mature, sheltered, +/- smooth-barked trees.

Thin brown or olive-brown, +/- immersed thallus with projecting perithecia and smaller pycnidia. Spores are easily broken, 1-septate, 19-24 x 4-5 µm. Both macro and microconidia are present. Micrograph of conidia below.

Similar: Strigula jamesii has whitish-grey thallus and 3-septate spores. Porina aenea and Porina borreri lack pycnidia
