Growth type fruticose
Chemical results: K-, C-, KC-, P+ red

Can be locally common in south and west on well-lit hedges and trees, very rarely found on rocks and dunes. Very sensitive to SO2 pollution. Often without distinct attachment, probably mainly wind distributed.

Long grey-green thallus, the main branches usually +/- smooth, older branches with scattered pseudocyphellae. Branches constricted to central core forming sausage-like segments. Infertile in Britain and Ireland.

Young specimens can resemble Usnea flammea, K+ yellow-red
