Lichenotubeufia heterodermiae (Tubeufia heterodermiae) #

Lichenicolous fungus. Photographs on Physcia tenella

Pathogenic on the thallus of Physcia adscendens and Physcia tenella. Also recorded from other Physcia species and Heteroderma obscurata.

Stromata are absent. Pale orangey-brown ascomata form on the surface of the host thallus, scattered, +/- globose and the outer wall is covered with glassy hairs. The 8-spored asci are long and narrow with a stalked, tapered base. Spores 145-165 x 2-2.5 µm and at least 25-septate (septation can be difficult to see). Microscope photograph below.
