Chemical results negative

Usually occurs on well-lit, nutrient-rich trees (eg Acer, Fraxinus) but occasionally found on old mortar, limestone tombstones

Spores muriform, 6 or more cells and oblique septa, 14-28(30) x 5-9 µm. Gyalecta flotowii has smaller spores with 6 or less cells

When saxicolous appears similar to G. hypoleuca (Petractis hypoleuca)
