Cladonia squamosa

Primary thallus squamulose, secondary thallus fruticose.
Chemical results: Chemical reactions negative, UV+ white

Common on acidic peaty soils, heaths, rotting wood and stumps and damp, mossy rocks

Very variable. Indented basal squamules often forming compact mats. Erect podetia with peeling squamules, bare, decorticate areas and brown apothecia. The podetia end in pointed tips or narrow cups with digitate projections on margins and open apices. Soredia are absent.
