Hyphomycete - Hypocreales
Microcera physciae Growth type lichenicolous hyphomycete. New to GB and Ireland. Photographs on Punctelia subrudecta. Identified by Paul Diederich. Recorded on thallii of corticolous Flavoparmeli, Melanohalea, Parmelia, Phaeophyscia, Physcia, Physconia, Punctelia and Umbilicaria species Forms colonies of partially immersed orange sporodochia containing agglomerated conidiophores. The mycelium is composed of branched, septate hyphae, 2-3 µm in diameter. Conidiogenous cells 10-20 x 2-3 µm, and the conidia are hyaline, smooth, 0-3 septate with both apices attenuated, (14-)24-45(-55) x 2.5-4 µm. Micrographs of conidia below |
