Hyphomycete
Psammina filamentosa Growth type algicolous and lichenicolous. Identification confirmed by David Hawksworth. Specimen in lobe of Punctelia borreri A pathogenic algicolous and lichenicolous species occuring among crusts of green algae and in lichens Dispersed brownish-black colonies, the mycelium of brown, branched hyphae (2.5-3.5 µm wide) immersed in the host tissue. Conidia 120-160 µm in diameter with c.70-100 arms, the arms 50-80(-100) x 2.5-4 µm and 6-8 septate. (The septation is harder to see in immature specimens). Micrographs below.
