Naetrocymbaceae
Leptorhaphis atomaria Growth type crustose Chemical results negative Found on Populus, especially P. tremula in nutrient-rich communities, but also known from Fraxinus and Salix in continental Europe. The smooth whitish or pale grey thallus is +/- immersed and composed of hyaline to greenish-brown hyphae. Small black perithecia with a central ostiole arise singly, and leave a narrow dark fringe when they disappear. Asci (6-)8 spored, the spores 1-3 septate, (20-)25-32 x 2-3.5 µm. Macroconidia simple, (11-)16-18 x 1.5-2 µm, microconidia unknown. Micrographs below. Similar: Leptorhaphis epidermidis is only found on Betula (Birch) |
