Nationally widespread but decreasing in Dorset due to use of herbicides and pesticides and the loss of habitat
Wingspan: 20-25mm. Several named varieties occur

Season: Two generations, May-June and August-September. Flies by day as well as at night
Habitat: Unimproved grasslands, moorland and waste ground

Larvae feed on clovers, trefoil and Lucerne
