Common, widespread
Wingspan: 30-40mm. Can be very variable

Season: 2-3 generations, March-May, June-August, September-October
Habitat: Deciduous woodland, gardens, hedgerows and parks

Larvae feed on the leaves of trees including Birch, Oak, Hazel, Hawthorn

DNA tests have shown The Engrailed and the Small Engrailed to be the same species with two different forms.
