Lichenicolous fungus. Photographs on Lecanora chlarotera

Widespread on apothecia (more rarely thalli) of Lecanora chlarotera and Lecanora hybocarpa, occasionally recorded on other Lecanora species.

Small, black, +/- globose pycnidia are usually immersed in the host but sometimes erumpent. Conidia simple, often biguttulate, 6.5-9 x 3-3.5 µm, dark bluish-green becoming pale brown, smooth or minutely verrucose. Microscope photograph of conidia below.

Similar: Vouauxiella verrucosa has broader, strongly verrucose conidia. Lichenodiplis lecanorae has 1-septate conidia.
