Growth type crustose
Chemical results: Apothecia K+ red-purple

Twigs and bark of basic-barked shrubs and trees; Elder, Ash, Sycamore. Occasional on wood with high PH value.

Whitish or grey thallus with large (to 2mm) apothecia, discs orange-yellow with thick, +/- crenulate margins. Asci 8-spored, the spores polarilocular, 12-15 x 8-10 µm, septum 5-8 µm wide 1/3 - 1/2 length of spore.

Similar: Caloplaca cerinella has smaller apothecia, asci 12-16 spored
