Lichenicolous fungus. Photographs on Pertusaria hymenea

Occurs on the thallus or apothecial warts of Pertusaria species. Most often recorded on P. leioplaca but also found on P. hymenea and P. pertusa.

Black pycnidia, solitary or in groups of 2-3. Conidia ellipsoid or ovoid with truncate base, 3.5-6 x 2.5-3.5 µm, simple, smooth-walled, pale brown but appearing darker when massed together. Micrographs of conidia below.

Similar: Dactylospora parasitica. Also on Pertusaria spp. but has black apothecia, spores mainly 3-septate but always some 1- or 2-septate spores present, 9-15 x 3.5-5 µm, brown when mature. Conidia absent.
