Lichenicolous fungus, commensalistic to parasitic on Lecanora species and blackening the apothecia. Also found on Evernia prunastri, Punctelia, Parmelina and Parmelia species.

Small black pycnidia, the brown conidia (2.5-)3-4.5(-5.5) µm diameter, globose or subglobose. Microscope photographs below.

Similar: Lichenoconium erodens. Found on a range of crustose and foliose species, the conidia smaller, 2-3.5 µm diameter.
Lichenoconium xanthoriae. Subglobose, truncate, (2.5)3-4.5(6)µm.
Lichenodiplis lecanorae. Conidia becoming 1-septate
